GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A traffic stop in Grand Island early Tuesday morning led to a massive drug bust for the Grand Island Police Department. An officer pulled over a vehicle near Ashton Avenue and Sycamore Street for a stop sign violation at 3:20 a.m. During the traffic stop, police said the driver, 40-year-old Said Hassan, ran away but was quickly apprehended. During a search of his vehicle, police reportedly found 13 pounds of suspected Khat, five of which were already packaged for sale.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Central Nebraska Humane Society in Grand Island hosted a wacky fundraiser Friday in an effort to help raise money. The nationally touring nonprofit group “Jordan’s Way” was oh hand. The organization helps animal shelters throughout the country raise funds for their furry residents. From pie in the face, to tortilla slapping, sliming and more, festivities take place and are broadcast on social media in an effort to raise funds online.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grace Cancer Foundation is holding their 6th annual ‘Grace Gala’ on Oct. 14. The foundation assists families with people who have been newly diagnosed with cancer and supports them financially with their bills. Executive Director Sarah Koch said it’s the largest event they’ve had so far with 420 attendees and 13 additional tables from last year. Although the event is sold out, that doesn’t mean there are any restrictions on community participation.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The 2023-24 school year is officially back in session for one area district. On Thursday morning, students in the Northwest Public School District headed back to class. At Northwest High School in Grand Island, they started off the new school year with a pep rally. Principal PJ Smith said they are excited for a few things this fall including the new musical “Mean Girls” beginning next Thursday.
