Dublin is on the four-city shortlist to host a five-day Rotary International convention, which would bring up to 20,000 visitors to the city and would be worth €40m to the capital. The decision to provisionally nominate two cities to host the convention in 2029 and 2031 will be made in January by Rotary International’s board of directors. Dublin’s rivals for the convention, which attracts visitors from up to 200 countries, include Barcelona, Cairo and New Delhi.

The most anticipated gaming event in years takes place in Ireland this week with special midnight launches for the hugely anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, with the Japanese gaming giant predicting 15m sales of the device worldwide and software sales of 45m. Nintendo's first version of the Switch is believed to be the most popular gaming unit in Ireland, and globally revived the fortunes of the Japanese gaming giant, which has sold more than 150m units since its 2017 launch.

Ms Melia, who has worked in the agency for 29 years, is currently an executive director of Enterprise Ireland, which includes the role of chief client officer. She will take up her new role as chief executive in July. Ms Melia will replace interim chief executive Kevin Sherry, who will return to his position as executive director in July.

When it comes to picking up a bonus, Michael O’Leary has shown it pays to be in for the long haul. Come 4.28pm on Friday, the Ryanair group chief executive is set to receive a bumper bonus, currently valued at €125m, six years after striking a share options renumeration deal with the airline. The terms of the bonus mean that Mr O’Leary will earn the options if Ryanair shares hold a price of €21 for 28 consecutive days, or if the airline generates €2.2bn in annual profit.
