Organisers are gearing up for a successful Honley Show 2025. The much-anticipated event takes place on the Farnley Tyas Showground on Saturday June 28. This year the mighty shire horses are now on the main field for their competitive classes as well as their preparation. The donkey classes have also moved to this ring on the main show field too. The dogs returned in 2024 after a long absence with a very successful Kennel Club accredited dog show.

Holmfirth joined a national celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a beacon-lighting event. Friends and families gathered at Cliff Rec for a commemoration and lighting of the Jubilee Beacon. The event was attended by dignitaries including Colne Valley MP Paul Davies and Deputy Mayor of Kirklees Clr Liz Smaje. Music was provided by Hade Edge Band while the 1st Holme Valley Scouts provided the refreshments.

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn will be a speaker at an event in Huddersfield to launch what’s described as a “new political force.”The People’s Alliance for Change and Equality (PACE) is holding a Conference of Resistance, a “major public event launching a long-term grassroots movement for justice, democracy and unity in Kirklees and beyond.”The conference will be held at Huddersfield Mission in Lord Street, Huddersfield, on Saturday May 10 (2pm-5pm).

Theekshana Kotuwegoda has made an 8,000-mile career move from Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean to brand licensing house Hela Brands in Huddersfield. Formerly part of the strategic planning and merchandising division at Colombo-based Hela Apparel Holdings, Theek, 35, has joined colleagues at Hela’s UK office in Paddock for a new role as accounts administrator.

The accolade was formally presented by Clr Cahal Burke following the school’s successful completion of the programme, which is organised and run by Kirklees Council’s Democracy Friendly Schools programme.
