One in four children leave primary school unable to read to the expected standard but a charity operating in Huddersfield is making a tangible difference. Schoolreaders provides over 33,000 children with weekly classroom reading sessions in England, connecting over 3,300 volunteers with primary schools. Research by Schoolreaders reveals that 94% of children increased reading confidence following volunteer reading sessions and 72% benefited from spending time with a positive role model.

Completion of a deal to hand over the John Smith’s Stadium to Huddersfield Town is on hold indefinitely. Huddersfield Giants owner Ken Davy has said he won’t sign the deal until he has planning permission on a new stadium site for the Giants – in Huddersfield. And in an exclusive interview with Huddersfield Hub, Mr Davy says the Giants still haven’t found a site – though they have a preferred option.

Emley AFC will host the first match in charge for Huddersfield Town’s new manager – for the second successive season. Last summer newly-appointed Michael Duff took his squad to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground for a pre-season friendly in front of 1,654 fans. History will repeat itself on Saturday June 28 when Town’s new boss Lee Grant takes charge for his first game at Emley. Tickets are only available online and are now on sale.
