MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Keep the umbrella handy with today because we will continue to track shower and storm chances. MORNING STORMSThe cold front has arrived over our area. This will bring scattered showers and storms early in the morning. Some storms may produce 40 mph winds and pea-sized hail. The main line of storms will push off-shore around 9am and we will will have a brief dry period by midday.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) -Increasing chances of showers and storms will arrive this weekend with some areas picking up on beneficial rainfall. TODAYA mild start to the weekend with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s with mostly clear skies. Southerly winds will help our temperatures reach in the low 80s for the Grand Strand and upper 80s inland. It’ll be a nice day to be outside, but you’ll want to keep an eye on the radar on our WMBF First Alert Weather App.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The latest update from the US Drought Monitor shows some improvements from last week’s rainfall. However, it still shows ‘Severe’ drought continuing across Horry and Georgetown Counties. Heavy rains (1.5 to locally 4 inches) were common in a band across the southern Appalachians, northern Georgia, and a broad portion of Alabama. Dryness and drought in these areas – mostly in northern Georgia – improved.

We’ve seen this across our viewing area almost looking like a rainbow in the clouds so how does a Sunday form? HOW DOES IT FORM? Sunlight hits ice particles in the atmosphere mainly associated with cirrus clouds. Cirrus clouds are made up of ice particles. As the light hits that ice particle it begins to bend.
