OGDENSBURG — The city is moving forward with obtaining recovered sandstone from the demolition of dilapidated and abandoned buildings at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center grounds. On Tuesday, the City Council authorized City Manager Fonda Chronis to enter into an access and indemnification agreement with the state Office of Mental Health to have city employees enter the psych center property and retrieve “construction debris” or sandstone bricks from the demolition site.

OGDENSBURG — A defamation lawsuit against the city of Ogdensburg, its former mayor and city manager, has finally been settled. The lawsuit, filed in October 2022 in state Supreme Court, was brought forth by Gerald Mack, a retired firefighter. City officials said that a $30,000 settlement was reached with Mack, which he confirmed on Wednesday. Mack said that he considers the ordeal to be over, but declined further comment.

OGDENSBURG — Neighbors of the abandoned Riverside Avenue warehouse, destroyed by fire in April, wants the city to demolish the entire structure and rezone the property to fit the neighborhood. At Monday’s City Council meeting, a letter signed by a dozen homeowners who reside on nearby Washington and Franklin streets, was read into the minutes by City Clerk Cathy Jock. The warehouse, located at 502 Riverside Ave., was destroyed by an April 24 fire that was ruled suspicious in nature.

OGDENSBURG — During the 2025-2026 school year at Ogdensburg Free Academy, interested students will be able to take a course to train them as an emergency medical technician or EMT. The course will be taught by members of the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad, which had approached the school district about the EMT course, led by retired teacher and longtime rescue squad member R. Storm Cilley. OVRS Emergency Services Chief Kenneth Gardner said that the class could help bolster its ranks.

OGDENSBURG — The Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad has begun its Annual Appeal for 2025. In 2024, the squad’s Annual Appeal raised $18,195 that were used to help purchase and equip its new Ford Transit- Demers ambulance which is being used for the increasing number of inter-facility transports.
