The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is making progress on the Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay mega project, and while the Port Arthur and Orange County parts are moving ahead on schedule, plans have been suspended for a third phase down the coast in Freeport. Originally authorized by Congress in 2018, the Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay Coastal Storm Risk Management Program aims to reduce the impact of hurricanes and tropical storms with long-term projects in multiple locations.

The overall success of Lamar University's athletic department has garnered the Cardinals a top honor from the Southland Conference. On Monday, Lamar officially received the 2024-25 Southland Conference Commissioner's Cup, an award annually given to the school with the most athletic success among conference members in a calendar year. It marks the second straight year that Lamar has won the award after doing so for the first time in 2023-24.
