KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Friday at Union Station in Kansas City, there will be quite a bit of commotion in the Grand Plaza!You can expect to see thousands of diapers in Union Station in hopes of constructing the world’s largest cake, made entirely of diapers. To try to make the largest diaper cake in the world, Union Station and Thrivent will use more than 80,000 diapers to complete the cake. The previous record was set by a diaper cake that only used 50,000 diapers.

INDEPENDECNE, Mo. — Thursday, May 8, marked the birthday of President Harry S. Truman. It was also Victory in Europe Day, celebrating Germany’s surrender in World War II. On Thursday, the Truman Library and Museum in Independence held a birthday commemoration. A U.S. Army team laid a wreath at Truman’s tomb on behalf of President Donald Trump. Truman served as president from 1945 to 1953 and died in 1972. Officials say he always held a special place in his heart for his hometown.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The reputation of Prospect Avenue is not the best because of the high crime rate and large number of abandoned buildings, but the city is hoping to change that. The city of Kanas City hopes to change its reputation by luring 40,000 people to relocate to the Prospect corridor. Right now, most people go elsewhere for work. Additionally, 16% of the housing along Prospect is vacant, 61% of the residents within a half-mile radius rent, and the median household income is $30,000.

LEAWOOD, Kan. — A traveling exhibit about evolution from the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History is in Leawood for just two more weeks. You can see an interactive display at the St. Paul School of Theology, which is located on the campus of the Church of the Resurrection off 138th and Roe. The exhibit is traveling the country to both libraries and seminaries and it’s been here since early February.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A farm school in Raymore, Missouri, is going the nontraditional route when it comes to teaching preschoolers. The kids start their day with a lesson and a little reading, but then they go outside and spend several hours playing and learning outdoors. They feed milk to the lamb, gather eggs from the chickens, plant trees and vegetables, and learn all about nature. Amanda Myers, the founder of this school, believes kids learn best through outside play.
