Six projects to improve infrastructure and encourage collaboration across the UK’s growing space sector have been announced today at Space-Comm Expo, following the publication of the government’s Space Industrial Plan. Dean Clough, the successful 22-acre business and leisure destination in Halifax, has agreed a deal to let 12,835 sq ft of ‘state-of-the-art’ workspace on a new five-year lease to Calderdale College. The College is expanding its digital creative skills hub at Dean Clough following a £700k Government funding boost. The new skills hub, Mill Studios, will serve students aged 16+ with high-tech facilities for studies in film and TV production, design and editing, esports and games design.

A ‘pioneering’ development aimed at tackling health and social challenges and identifying solutions that will benefit people in the North East and beyond was given a funding boost in yesterday’s budget. The announcement of the North East Mayoral Combined Authority Trailblazer Deal in the budget, which includes £10m towards a Health Innovation Zone, will help move forwards the delivery of Newcastle University’s plans for a Health Innovation Neighbourhood (HIN).

The plans will see the Orangery, last open in 2012, undergo an refurbishment overhaul to bring the much loved building, steeped in history, back into use. The planned works to the interior of the Orangery are the latest in the continued investment in the Hall which saw the Council and Historic England invest over £2.1m in 2018-19 in works to the external fabric of this Grade 1 listed building to ensure it remains wind and weathertight.
