SOUTH SHORE — A South Shore community garden’s experiential summer camp, which aims to help kids explore their interests by introducing them to a wide array of activities, is returning this month. The South Merrill Community Garden’s free, one-week summer camp is 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. June 16-21 at the garden, 7030 S. Merrill Ave. It’s open to children ages 6-12, with a full breakfast and lunch served each day of camp.

SOUTH SHORE — A tenants union is celebrating its successful bid to give members more time and money to move out of two troubled apartment buildings in South Shore. Residents of 6715-23 and 6952-58 S. Paxton Ave., two properties formerly managed by CKO Real Estate, are set to move out after Cook County Circuit Court Judge Joseph Sconza ruled the buildings were unsafe to live in.

HYDE PARK — It’s been nearly a decade since the University of Chicago’s concrete car was restored and moved to its current home inside a campus garage, and the artwork is still baffling its viewers — if they notice it at all. “Concrete Traffic,” a 1957 Cadillac DeVille encased in concrete, was conceived by German artist Wolf Vostell.
