A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the parents of a 3-year-old who died earlier this month, according to the Canton Police Department. On May 5, officers responded to Gilbert Circle NE for a report of a child found in his bed not breathing, police said. The 3-year-old was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A warrant was obtained for his parents, Demetres Givens, 42, and Jamie Thompson, 37, police said.

On May 11, 2024, Derbin was shot during an ambush while responding to a disturbance at a home in the 300 block of East 211th Street just before 10 p.m.The officer was transported to University Hospitals, where he died from his injuries.

A 52-year-old man is dead after a stabbing occurred in Akron, according to the Akron Police Department. Around 8 p.m., officers responded to the 1600 block of Cromwell Drive for a report of a stabbing, police said. Upon arrival, they located the man who suffered from critical injuries. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said. The person who allegedly stabbed the man is known to the victim and fled the scene, police said.

A Westlake resident found WWII projectiles and a grenade in their home earlier this month, according to the Westlake Police Department. On May 5, the Westlake Fire Department received an email from a concerned citizen saying they believed they found an “old WWII grenade and two anti-aircraft shells,” police said. The items were found in the basement of the home the resident had just purchased. Department officials emailed the resident back and advised them not to touch the items, police said.
Death of Warren father ruled homicide

The death of a 46-year-old father from Warren in March has been ruled a homicide, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office. Juvar King's cause of death was determined to be from a gunshot wound to the back of his head, the medical examiner's office said. King was reported missing Feb. 4, and a vehicle belonging to one of King’s family members was found caught on fire in Cleveland that same day.
27-year-old stabbed, injured in Massillon

Shortly after 1 a.m., officers responded to the 50 block of 5th Street NE for a report of a stabbing, police said. Upon arrival, officers located the 27-year-old and immediately rendered life-saving aid. The man was transported to a nearby hospital in an unknown condition.
ODOT vehicle struck on I-90 eastbound

Wednesday morning, an Ohio Department of Transportation vehicle was struck by another vehicle on I-90 eastbound, according to ODOT. Due to the crash, three lanes were closed on I-90 East at Eddy Road, causing traffic delays. The highway has since reopened. There is no information regarding injuries or further details on the crash at this time, ODOT said. Wednesday morning's crash marks the 62nd time ODOT people, equipment, or property have been struck this year statewide.
