LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Ponca Tribe of Nebraska is filling vending machines at their health centers — but not with food. Instead, the machines are stocked with supplies that could save lives. “These vending machines are just one way of us meeting you where you’re at when you need help,” said LuAnne Even, the chief behavioral health officer at Ponca Health Services. There’s a stigma around addiction — a stigma that could discourage some people from reaching out for the help they need.

GENEVA, Neb. (KLKN) — Crews started a three-month inspection of power poles in Fillmore County on Monday, just a couple of months after thousands of customers were left in the dark. A strong winter storm hit southeast Nebraska in March, knocking down around 1,000 powerlines around the Geneva area. It took around a month to get them all fixed.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man says the Rock Island Trail is getting bogged down by vehicles that aren’t supposed to be there. Clint Solano lives along the trail near 33rd and South streets. He and his wife often sit on their back patio, which faces the path. Over the past few years, they have noticed a concerning increase in traffic. “Some of the bikes we’ve seen are full-out dirt bikes like you’d see on motocross,” Solano said.

CERESCO, Neb. (KLKN) — More than a year after he died in the line of duty, Ross Bartlett’s family is speaking out for the first time. The Ceresco Police officer was killed April 12, 2024, in a crash on Highway 77 during a traffic stop. His sudden death left a hole in the town of Ceresco — and in his family. “We try to honor him as best as we can,” said Bartlett’s daughter, Tiffany Yant.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Electric System’s administrative board voted unanimously Friday to raise rates this summer. Your utility bill could go up by 4% starting July 1. Board members said this increase is “urgent” in order to boost energy production. “The longer that we wait, the less that we will see in terms of savings because the costs are going up so significantly,” board member Chelsea Johnson said. For the average household, this price hike amounts to around $4 extra per month.
