MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two cars caught fire in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Bartlett Road Thursday morning. The Memphis Police Department is investigating the fire, which was reported at 5:37 a.m. near Biscoe Avenue. It is unclear what caused the fire, but the owner of one of the vehicles told WREG her car was allegedly set aflame by her ex-boyfriend, who she says has a history of violent behavior. The woman says she is now without a car for work and is trying to figure out her next steps.

COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — A shooting at a Collierville gas station is under investigation on Wednesday afternoon, according to police. The Collierville Police Department says the shooting occurred at the Express Mart located at 242 South Byhalia Road. They say two women, who are employees at the Carrier Corporation nearby, got into an argument, leading to a single shot being fired. Police say no one was injured during the altercation. We will provide updates as information becomes available.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Jimmy Stokes was elected as the new mayor of Horn Lake, Mississippi, marking the first leadership change for the city since 2013. Commissioner Stokes, a Democrat, beat out Daniel Klein Sr. in the mayoral race with a lead of only 83 votes. Only 18.2% of eligible voters cast ballots in the election. He previously ran for mayor in 2021, but lost to Mayor Allen Latimer. Stokes will now be taking Latimer’s place as the first African American mayor of Horn Lake.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is facing a long list of charges after police say he shot at an apartment filled with children in November of last year. Markavous Hampton, 26, was charged with 14 counts of Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment discharging firearm into a habitation, and Vandalism Less than $1,000. On November 8, 2024, just before 4 p.m., the Memphis Police Department responded to a shooting at the Springdale Creek Apartments.
