The two people who died after their pickup truck crashed on the Arlington Memorial Bridge and plunged into the icy Potomac River have been identified by police as 52-year-old Maryland residents Jerod Wert and Jerel Wert. They were from Chesapeake Beach, U.S. Park Police said. A police spokesperson could not immediately confirm how they were related or whether the two were siblings. The Werts' pickup crashed during rush hour Thursday evening.

The white pickup truck's driver was headed out of Arlington, Virginia, and toward Washington, D.C., at about 7 p.m. when the driver crashed into another vehicle, lost control and veered across all lanes of traffic.

A man with a machete and three knives inside his bag was arrested at the entrance to the U.S. Capitol, as members of the public stopped by to pay their respects to former President Jimmy Carter, U.S. Capitol Police said. According to Capitol Police, the man was stopped at the north doors to the Capitol Visitors Center. Officers spotted the machete in the man's bag, at which point they stopped the X-ray machine and arrested him.
