MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Helena-West Helena Mayor Christopher Franklin was arrested Tuesday for failing to pay his taxes, Arkansas State Police say. A video began circulating on Facebook this afternoon that appeared to show Mayor Franklin being placed in handcuffs by Arkansas troopers. ASP said Franklin, 44, was charged with four counts of Failure to Pay or File a Tax Return, a Class D felony as a result of a Special Investigations Unit (SIU) probe.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The former superintendent of Memphis-Shelby County Schools is seeking a preliminary injunction to void the school board’s decision to fire her, and get her job back. Attorneys for Dr. Marie Feagins filed the motion Monday in Shelby County Circuit Court. Dr. Feagins was terminated on January 21. In February, Feagins filed a civil lawsuit against the school board for terminating her contract.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police took two people into custody at an East Memphis Walgreens Sunday after spotting a vehicle taken in a carjacking. MPD said officers saw Gabrielle Carey, 18, getting in and out of a 2017 Nissan Maxima that was stolen during a carjacking in the 5100 block of Daysland Cove in Southeast Shelby County. Police did not say when the carjacking happened. According to the affidavit, officers followed Carey into the store where she met a co-defendant who attempted to swallow a car key.
