Wood Jr. support that description. On May 29, 1979, the judge was gunned down outside his Alamo Heights townhouse as he was leaving for work. Wood was fatally shot by a high-powered rifle, the bullet striking him in the middle of his back, according to news reports. Wood served on the bench for the Western District of Texas.
