An endangered piping plover pair on a beach in Waukegan have joined their counterparts on Montrose Beach in Chicago and elsewhere on the Great Lakes with little ones on the way. The piping plovers are named Blaze and Pepper. Blaze is the female. The Lake County Audubon Society says they now have four eggs in their clutch or nest on a private beach in Waukegan. They arrived two weeks ago on the same beach on the same day where they had three chicks last year. One wintered in Florida.

The City of Chicago today joined a national initiative becoming a "Purple Heart City."Signs have been unveiled on LaSalle Street at the entrance to City Hall and at the site of Fort Dearborn, at Michigan and Wacker reading "Chicago Illinois Purple Heart City."The include the silhouette of George Washington on a purple background inside a gold heart-shaped medal. A 15-year-old Michigan boy who was missing for 9 days was found safe on Friday evening in Chicago. Glenn Brown had been last seen on May 7 th, walking into a wooded area in Calhoun County, near Battle Creek. He seemed to have vanished. There was an extensive search, lasting for more than a week. It included the use of drones, K9 teams and volunteers. The boy was captured at one point in a wooded area on a trail camera. He was also captured on a Ring camera.
