MANKATO/NORTH MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Memorial Day weekend is seen as the unofficial kick off to summer and with summer comes swimming season. In North Mankato, the splash pad will open for the season Saturday. The Splashpad will be open daily from 9 AM to 9 PM. It is located next to Fallenstein Playground and Caswell Park on Howard Drive. This is the 4th year the splash pad has been open. Another North Mankato facility, the Spring Lake Park Pool, is set to open for the season on Friday, June 6.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Marine veteran Tyler Kistner announced Thursday he is running for Congress in the 2nd congressional district. Kistner has run for the seat before, which is currently held by Democrat Angie Craig, who recently announced she is running for the U.S. Senate seat that will be left vacant by the upcoming retirement of Senator Tina Smith. The 2nd congressional district includes the southern Twin Cities metro area as well as Dakota, LeSueur and Scott counties.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KEYC) - Minnesota’s unemployment rate rose one-tenth of a percent in April to 3.2%. That’s according to data released this morning from the Department of Employment and Economic Development. The national unemployment rate sits at 4.2%. DEED says the state lost 1300 jobs in April. As of March, the Mankato-North Mankato metropolitan statistical area had an unemployment rate of 3.3%.
