Marshall Garrett, 38, is facing charges in the death of Harriette Phillips, who investigators say was fatally mauled at her Houston home by three Staffordshire mix dogs belonging to Garrett, according to court records filed April 9 in Harris County. Phillips was 65 years old, news outlets reported.

A 72-year-old man was shot and killed with his own rifle by a live-in caretaker, Minnesota police and family say. Jacob John Audie, 36, called 911 before 9 p.m. on Friday, April 11, and told police he had shot his roommate inside their St. Paul apartment, the Dakota County Attorney’s Office said in an April 14 news release. Police arrested Audie in the parking lot then went into the apartment to find Michael Schille dead in a back bedroom, prosecutors said.
