Your Local Weather Authority is back for another episode of weather chat, and terrible jokes. We talked about a local This Day in Weather History back on May 8th, 2000. There were two tornadoes in Central Illinois and a swath of wind damage from 80 mph winds. We also touched on the layoffs impacting the National Weather Service as we approach hurricane season.

Peoria, IL (WMBD) – What an icon to have on set. Danny Devito the guinea pig. He has quite the hairdo and has plenty of years ahead of him. Guinea pigs are a nice starter pet, they need plenty of floor space and things to chew on that aren’t cords and cables. Peoria, IL (WMBD) – We’re officially into May now and it’s been a rainy start. April definitely brought the “April showers” so how will we do with the “May flowers”? Our start with This Day in Weather History is a look into the not too distant past at April 29th, 2022. There was a moderate risk (level 4 of 5) over Kansas and Nebraska that spawned 23 tornadoes. An EF3 ripped through Andover, KS destroying hundreds of buildings. Six people were injured.

Peoria, IL (WMBD)– We had a storm Easter and so far a very warm week. We talked about the latest tornado trends in the area and about our recent severe weather. Easter Sunday fell on April 20th and most of the day was pleasant. There were showers in the morning but most of the day stayed dry. Then then temps jumped into the 70s late in the day setting us up for the storms that rolled in later that night. The storms followed our predictions and gradually weakened as they moved through the area.

Peoria, IL (WMBD)– Central Illinois hasn’t seen any severe weather this past week but it’s definitely been windy. Our kick off with This Day in Weather History was a story in three parts. It’s being referred to as the “Forgotten Outbreak”. Over a three day period from April 14th to the 16th, 2011 was a massive outbreak that hit the southern states and eventually hit the east coast. On April 14th the storms brought 56 tornadoes that hit states from Kansas to Mississippi.
