GOSHEN, Ind. (WNDU) - Making history!Goshen’s first female mayor was sworn in Wednesday night. Gina Leichty first served as interim mayor earlier this year after Mayor Jeremy Stutsman resigned from the position. In November, Leichty defeated Republican newcomer Benjamin Rogers. Prior to becoming mayor, Leichty owned her own business in communications and marketing. She has also been heavily involved in the community for nearly two decades....serving as a community partner and volunteer.
Students to sing for Pope on New Year’s Day

GRANGER, Ind. (WNDU) - Students from Catholic schools in our area will sing for Pope Francis on New Year’s Day. Most of the students are parishioners at St. Pius X in Granger. They, along with 3,000 other students, were invited to sing. “So, we have the International Pueri Cantores Festival. Pueri Cantores is Latin for young singers...We are actually singing for the Papal mass on New Year’s Day at ten a.m. and Pope Francis will be presiding, so we will get that opportunity.

DOWAGIAC, Mich. (WNDU) - People gathered for the grand opening of a new family entertainment center Wednesday night. Nitro Zone offers a variety of fun for people of all ages. It is in the old Shopko grocery store building on Pokagon Street right up the road from the casino. Nitro Zone has an indoor rollercoaster, arcade games, bowling, laser tag and axe throwing. Young adults transitioning out of foster care gathered at the St. Joe County Public Library in South Bend Thursday night for a big holiday celebration. Foster Success and Indiana’s Youth Advisory Board started the event. Foster Success said while many people spend the holidays with family, teens and young adults aging out of foster care often spend it alone.
Council approves bond for GM EV battery plant project

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The St. Joseph County Council approved resolutions Tuesday night for the General Motors project in New Carlisle. The county will be leasing some of its property in order to help pay for the bond. This project could cost up to $50 million. County officials said the Samsung and GM electric vehicle battery plant is ahead of schedule. During a meeting Tuesday, the County Council passed two resolutions to move the project along.

(WNDU) - The Buchanan City Commission met Monday night to discuss the future of their city manager and a commissioner who is accused of leaking confidential information over allegations against the city manager.
