Retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Pete Benton, who grew up in Havelock, North Carolina, has spent a lifetime dedicated to military service. Benton said he knew from an early age that the military was his calling. "I chose to go enlisted. Which I’m kind of glad I did because later on it made me a better Air Force officer," he said. Benton served during the Vietnam era and achieved one of the highest distinctions in the Air Force by serving on the Presidential Honor Guard.
