The event at Elkhart’s downtown library marked a return to a tradition for the local chapter, which had paused celebrations in recent years due to scheduling conflicts with the annual Elkhart Jazz Festival. But now with Juneteenth officially recognized as a federal holiday, it gave the opportunity to celebrate both events together.

    NILES, Mich. (WNDU) - The Niles Charter Township has approved nearly two dozen marijuana dispensary applications. It was a packed room as dozens of Niles Township residents attended Monday night’s regular meeting. Many voiced concerns, saying the move to allow an unlimited number of dispensaries could have a negative impact on the community. Before taking a vote on whether to approve 21 marijuana establishment applications, treasurer Jim Ringler recused himself.

    SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - A highly-anticipated event that’s become an annual South Bend tradition took place on Friday night. We’re talking about the Junior Achievement Wine and Beer Festival at Four Winds Field. The event, which is going on its seventh year now, allowed attendees to indulge in over 75 unlimited beverage offerings plus live entertainment from the band PS Dump Your Boyfriend. Junior Achievement says this is its biggest fundraiser of the year.

    SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Bend School Corporation board approved a handful of agenda items on Monday night. That included a one-time stipend of $2,000- $2,500 to veteran paraprofessionals and a one-time stipend of $500 for new paraprofessionals. The board passed that item unanimously. Longtime teacher Blanca Bandera made the case for paraprofessionals.
