The public is invited to give feedback on the redevelopment of Lake Monona’s shoreline and explore what pedestrian and bike amenities could look like along John Nolen Drive. Madison’s parks department will host a virtual public information session on January 23 between 6:30 and 8pm. The parks department and representatives from Sasaki, an international landscape design firm, will present plans for the first phase of simultaneous projects to change the face of Lake Monona’s shoreline.

A new podcast hosted by local community leader Will Green called The Social Compass is available every Sunday at 5 p.m. through Up Next TV Network, a multi-media platform aimed at providing lower-cost streaming options. Green is the founder and CEO of Mentoring Positives, a Madison-based youth mentorship program that has been working with local kids in the Darbo/Worthington neighborhood for more than 20 years.

Dane County awarded more than $50,715 in racial and social justice grants to several local organizations this week. Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Dane County, Black Men Coalition, Journey Mental Health, Waunakee Neighborhood Connection each received money from the county. The grants are intended to address systemic racial inequities in health, education, employment and criminal justice.

MOSES, a Madison-based organization committed to ending mass incarceration, celebrated its annual Transformation Celebration and Gala on Dec. 14 at the Brassworks Building of the Goodman Community Center on Madison’s east side. During the gala, three formerly incarcerated people were presented with awards for their transformative work in the community.

A teenage student and a teacher were killed in a school shooting at Madison’s Abundant Life Christian School Monday morning, according to Madison Police. Around 10:57 a.m., Madison Police responded to reports of an active shooter at the Christian school at 4901 Buckeye Road on Madison’s east side. Officers arrived to find several people wounded, including some who were in critical condition.
