The 2025 NBA Finals, currently tied at a game apiece between the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder, represents the dawn of a new era in the NBA. At least for now, the days when superteams and household names dominate the postseason appears finished. This year’s finalists are homegrown teams that run eight or nine players deep, rather than featuring one overwhelming star. They play fast and loose. Indiana, especially, is a sum of parts greater than just one person.

The public is invited to give feedback on the redevelopment of Lake Monona’s shoreline and explore what pedestrian and bike amenities could look like along John Nolen Drive. Madison’s parks department will host a virtual public information session on January 23 between 6:30 and 8pm. The parks department and representatives from Sasaki, an international landscape design firm, will present plans for the first phase of simultaneous projects to change the face of Lake Monona’s shoreline.

Dane County awarded more than $50,715 in racial and social justice grants to several local organizations this week. Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Dane County, Black Men Coalition, Journey Mental Health, Waunakee Neighborhood Connection each received money from the county. The grants are intended to address systemic racial inequities in health, education, employment and criminal justice.

MOSES, a Madison-based organization committed to ending mass incarceration, celebrated its annual Transformation Celebration and Gala on Dec. 14 at the Brassworks Building of the Goodman Community Center on Madison’s east side.
