Friday night, The St. Patrick`s Committee of Holyoke held their 5th annual Battle of the Bars bartending event at the Holyoke Knight of Columbus; an event to help raise money for parade day. The popular event helps to raise money for the Committee to offset the costs of the bands and entertainment on Parade Weekend.

The Valley Blue Sox hosted this special night for local kids and their mentors. Dozens came out to cheer on the collegiate summer baseball team against the Vermont Mountaineers at Mackenzie Stadium while supporting a mission to create one-to-one mentoring relationships for area kids.

(WWLP) – A man was ordered held without bail on a murder charge, in connection with the deadly stabbing of his girlfriend in Worcester on Valentine’s Day. 28-year-old, Sadrac Matellus was arrested on a murder charge in connection with her death. Brockton Schools seeking help from the National Guard

BROCKTON, Mass. (WWLP) – School officials in the eastern Massachusetts city of Brockton, are seeking the National Guard’s help in establishing order within its schools. The request follows a rise in fights, substance abuse, and students skipping classes. Nearly half of the school committee members have signed a petition for the National Guard’s assistance. They want the guard to intervene, while school leadership can determine a long-term plan for the ongoing violence and disorder.
West Springfield school saved by parent petition

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A school in West Springfield will stay open for now, after a successful parent-led petition. Mayor Will Reichelt announced on his Instagram page Wednesday evening that the Mittineague Elementary School will not be closing next year. The school committee voted last month to shut down the school for financial reasons. Residents had 30 days to get 2,400 signatures for the town to reconsider. It was announced Tuesday night at a meeting that the doors will stay open.
