ELK POINT, S.D. -- A North Sioux City man charged with having sexual contact with a teenage boy he had tutored has been acquitted of three of the four charges he faced at trial. A Union County jury on Tuesday found Matthew Vanderpool not guilty of child abuse, sexual exploitation of a minor and sexual contact without consent. He was found guilty of stalking. He was acquitted of solicitation of a minor in a separate motion.

LE MARS, Iowa — A former Plymouth County Sheriff's deputy convicted of stealing prescription painkillers has filed a legal malpractice lawsuit against his first lawyer whose advice led to a 40-year prison sentence that was later vacated. Aaron Leusink says Justin Vondrak mistakenly advised him to plead guilty, telling him he'd be eligible for probation or being released from prison within a year after having a judge reconsider his sentence.

ONAWA, Iowa — A Whiting, Iowa, woman has pleaded not guilty of fatally stabbing her boyfriend. Veronica Kluge, 47, entered her written plea Monday in Monona County District Court to one count of first-degree murder and waived her right to a speedy trial within 90 days. A trial date has yet to be set. She was arrested March 16 after authorities were called to her home at 16757 County Highway K-42 and found her 50-year-old boyfriend, Justin Luth, dead from a stab wound to the heart.

DAKOTA CITY -- A South Sioux City man is in custody on suspicion of sexually abusing a child. Dannon Vanderschaaf, 34, was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Dakota County Jail on two counts each of first-degree child sexual assault and incest. His bond was set at $250,000.

CHEROKEE, Iowa -- A Meriden, Iowa, man has pleaded not guilty of having sexual contact with a child. Travis Rupp, 40, entered his written plea Monday in Cherokee County District Court to charges of second-degree sexual abuse, incest and child endangerment. Rupp is charged with having sexual contact with the child on Feb. 5, when sheriff's deputies were called to the Meriden home for a report of an assault. According to court documents, Rupp displayed a firearm during the alleged sexual assault.
