Stoughton police are investigating after a person showed up in the city's downtown with a gunshot wound Monday. Police responded to the 100 block of East Main Street around 1:21 p.m. of a person who had been shot. Police said the shooting appeared to have occurred elsewhere. The victim, a male whose age was not released, was taken to an area hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries, police said.

A 31-year old woman was taken into custody in Blue Mounds on Monday in connection with the death of a 54-year-old woman, the Dane County Sheriff's Office said. Witnesses reported a disturbance on Smokey Mountain Trail at 11:44 a.m., police said. The Dane County Sheriff's Office and the Blue Mounds Police Department responded to the scene. The 31-year-old woman left the scene by car but was later taken into custody as a person of interest, the sheriff's office said.

State transportation officials are investigating after an excavator being pulled by a semi-truck hit a Highway 51 overpass in DeForest while attempting to cross beneath it Monday, DeForest Windsor Fire and EMS said. The collision was reported around noon, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office. Part of Bear Tree Parkway, which runs under the bridge, remained closed Monday afternoon, said Kraig Knapp, assistant chief of DeForest Windsor Fire and EMS.
