AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A statement made by Amherst County Commonwealth's Attorney Lyle Carver at a Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday night is being called into question. The board was discussing an agenda item on helping to fund legal expenses for law enforcement officers who believe they've been wrongly accused of something that led to a Brady letter against them.

AMHERST COUNTY, Va (WSET) — The discussion got heated at times at Tuesday night's Amherst County Board of Supervisors meeting, as they discussed whether to help officers with the Amherst County Sheriff's Office with legal expenses to fight Brady letters they feel are unjust. Prosecutors are required to write Brady letters if an officer has been shown to be untruthful or biased. It can put an officer's testimony in court into question and could be career-ending.

It’s been three years since Louis Goldman resigned from a decades-long career in law enforcement, after what he and others believe was a dishonest report. The investigation report is centered around about 13 seconds in time in April of 2021. It led to what is known as a “Brady letter” that ultimately ended his career.
