Sunday marked the inaugural Battle For The Basket to raise funds for the Ottawa Community Food Basket. The event, in the Jordan Block in downtown Ottawa, was sponsored by KEEP Rentals and KEEP Clean Laundry. It featured seven food trucks that each sold a featured specialty item for $5. More than 12,000 people in La Salle County live with food insecurity, and the Ottawa Community Food Basket works daily to ensure families don’t go hungry.

The Black Box Theatre at McHenry County College has announced that auditions for its spring production of “Present Laughter” will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, and Tuesday, Dec. 12. Callbacks will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14. There are roles for 11 actors.

Will County’s first and only level 3 neonatal intensive care welcomed its first set of triplets shortly before the NICU’s first birthday. Samantha and Jarrod LeSage’s triplets were born June 5 at the Amy, Matthew and Jay Vana Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

Drivers traveling on 12th Street in Streator soon will have to stop at Otter Creek Road. The Streator City Council approved at Wednesday’s meeting a four-way stop sign at the intersection. City Engineer Jeremy Palm said there were concerns about how fast drivers were traveling on 12th Street past Otter Creek Road, which is one of the more well-traveled north and south routes through Streator. Otter Creek Road travelers always have had to stop to 12th Street traffic.

At noon on Oct. 28, visit Oswego’s Little White School Museum to learn about some of the homes and other buildings in town that have been moved from one location to another during the village’s 190-year history. How common was moving buildings back then? How were they moved in the days before heavy motorized construction equipment existed? And why move them at all?

This event will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Plano Methodist parking lot, 219 N. Hale St., Plano. Car trunks will be decorated in fall colors and Halloween items and arranged in a circle. Children visit each trunk in the safety of the church parking lot and pick out treats at each stop.

A pop-up mobile market in Joliet provided free groceries to 800 families in need. The free grocery distribution was by the Northern Illinois Food Bank on Saturday morning at Joliet Junior College, 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet. Each family received 50 pounds of food, said Mike Keane, director of programs for the food bank. “The distribution reached capacity by 8:45 a.m. [on Saturday]. Food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and some neighbors arrived early,” Keane said.
