The Bears rookie most likely to be in the starting lineup Week 1 might not be their first pick, Colston Loveland, who figures to start the season as the team’s second tight end. It might not be one of their three second-round picks, either — Luther Burden is likely the team’s third receiver in Week 1, Ozzy Trapilo figures to back up veteran Braxton Jones at left tackle and Shemar Turner is one of six interior defensive linemen fighting for playing time.

Contrary to Caleb Williams’ claims in a new book, the Bears quarterback had daily film sessions with coaches, former head coach Matt Eberflus said. Eberflus, who is in his first year as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator, told “The Doomsday Podcast” with Ed Werder and Matt Mosley that Williams wasn’t left to his own devices in the film room. “I would say this,” Eberflus said.

Tight end Cole Kmet was lined up in the wrong spot — by about maybe a yard — as the Bears snapped the ball during an OTA practice last month. Ben Johnson, the first-time head coach, stopped practice, shouted a series of staccato obscenities, and told his team to run the play again. It’s a scene that happens all the time in the offseason. This year, though, it feels different. “They’re relentless on the details,” said Kmet, who is now on his fourth Bears head coach, counting interim Thomas Brown.

Bears tight end Colston Loveland is far enough removed from the January surgery on his right shoulder that he can lift weights. He can run routes and catch passes, though he might not want to throw the ball back right-handed. “I actually became ambidextrous, kinda,” he said Tuesday. “I get to use both hands.”This offseason, he’s had both of them tied behind his back. The next Bears practice he participates in will be his first.

Ozzy Trapilo played right tackle the last two years at Boston College but would stay after practice to work on the left side. With the Bears, he’s playing on the left side — and has a chance, depending on Braxton Jones’ health and effectiveness, to start there. The second-round rookie rotated at left tackle with Kiran Amegadjie, a third-round pick last year, during the Bears’ offseason practices.
