A senior Iranian military figure has warned citizens in Tel Aviv and Haifa to "evacuate as soon as possible". "Punitive operations will be carried out soon," Iran's armed forces chief of staff Abdolrahim Mousavi said in a TV statement. "Residents of the occupied territories, especially Tel Aviv and Haifa, are strongly urged to leave these areas for the sake of their lives," he said.

Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, has told the UN Security Council that his country's strikes on Iran were "an act of national preservation". Danon says intelligence confirmed, that within days, Iran could have produced enough fissile material for multiple bombs. He says Israel conducted the strikes alone. "We waited for diplomacy to work, we watched negotiations stretch on as Iran made false concessions or refused most fundamental conditions," Danon says.

A US court has deemed Donald Trump's "liberation day" tariffs illegal, in a significant setback to the president's attempts to reorder global trade. Wall Street posted gains on Thursday following the ruling, which is already being appealed by the Trump administration. The lawsuit was filed by a group of small businesses, including wine wholesaler VOS Selections, whose owner has said the tariffs could torpedo the company.

A man has been detained after a car hit pedestrians in the UK city of Liverpool during celebrations over the local football club's Premier League victory. In a statement, Merseyside Police said they were "currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre". "We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Monday 26 May, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street. "The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained.
