Sammy Sosa is back. Again. The former Chicago Cubs outfielder will return to Wrigley Field Friday for the first time since his controversial exit in 2004, after reuniting with the organization in January at the Cubs Convention. Sosa’s return was supposed to be a surprise reveal after a video highlight package was played in the “Legends of the Game” segment. Sosa would then be shown live in a Cubs suite, as other former players have done when they’ve appeared in the video feature.

Now that the City Council has done its part to get an All-Star Game at Wrigley Field, approving a measure to provide city and state funding to help subsidize the Chicago Cubs’ plan to install security bollards around the ballpark, the ball is in the hands of Major League Baseball. In a rare scheduling quirk in the middle of June, the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers were both in town for the first time this season, playing on opposite sides of town. The Cubs played host to the Brewers on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field, while the White Sox took on the Cardinals at Rate Field.
