A 25-year-old woman was knocked to the ground as she was robbed of her phone by six balaclava-clad youths on a late-night train home to Bishop’s Stortford. Two motorcyclists died in two separate crashes on the A120 east of Bishop’s Stortford in the space of 90 minutes on Wednesday (April 16). Specialist police officers are supporting the families of two men, aged 20 and 42. Both bikers died at the scene of the incidents, which happened on the single-carriageway stretch between Braintree and Coggeshall, a route popular with motorists from the Bishop’s Stortford heading to the Essex coast.

A long-serving member of staff at Herts and Essex High School has been short-listed in this year’s Pearson National Teaching Awards. Mary Compton, who is assistant headteacher for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), is in the running for the title of Secondary School Teacher of the Year.
