The final scoreline does not do justice to Sligo but Donegal will be very happy with their opening win in the GAA Masters competition at Fr Tierney Park, Ballyshannon. The opening quarter was very tightly contested with Donegal taking their scores while Sligo should have had a goal on 10 minutes. Donegal finished the first half strongly and then hit 2-1 inside three minutes of the restart to put the game to bed.

After missing out on most of the National League campaign, Abigail Temple Asokuh is glad to be in the running to play a part in the Ladies Ulster final next Saturday against Armagh in Clones (3 pm)The full-back injured her ankle against Roscommon at the end of February but is back and looking forward to the big game. Donegal Co. Council are to hold a civic reception to honour the sporting exploits of Katie-George Dunlevy. The reception is planned for June 12th at the Public Services Centre, Drumlonagher, Donegal Town. The para-cyclist who represented Ireland at the last three Paralympics, winning gold on each occasion, is daughter of Mountcharles native, John Dunlevy, and is a regular visitor to the area with the family.

An Tearmann lifted their second ever Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta Donegal title with victory over hosts Ard an Ratha on Monday in Pearse Park. The key to their victory was a first half masterclass in shooting which propelled them into an unassailable 2-12 to 0-3 lead and from there it was a matter of controlling the game. They only managed 1-1 against the wind but were never really troubled. The fast start was something that impressed manager Caolan McDaid.
