As the Donegal team and supporters head west to King & Moffatt Dr Hyde Park, Roscommon on Sunday to take on Mayo in the final group game of the All-Ireland Series, there are similarities to an All-Ireland quarter-final replay in 2003 when Donegal were made travel to McHale Park, Castlebar to meet Galway in a replay. The previous year Donegal had lost out to Dublin in a quarter-final replay and a lack of discipline saw Mickey Moran walk away.

Donegal got back on track on Sunday in Kingspan Breffni Park with a 19 point win over Cavan in round 2 of the All-Ireland Series, but it took them some time to get into their stride. A goal before half-time after a sweeping counter-attack saw corner-back Finnbarr Roarty make up the ground to get on the end of the move and palm to the net.

What a difference a week makes. The smiles were back on the faces of Donegal supporters on Sunday evening as they left Kingspan Breffni Park with Donegal amassing 3-26 against Cavan, their biggest ever championship total for a single match. Once again the Donegal supporters travelled in huge numbers and must have outnumbered the home support by at least three to one in the 13,000 attendance.

Fresh from his second place finish in Rás Tailteann, Jamie Meehan from Mountcharles was back in action last week in a tough five day tour at Alpes Isère Tour. While he found it hard to get into the race in the opening days, he finished strongly, especially on the final day when he was at his best on the climb to the finish.
