CLEVELAND — A new, free pop-up park is opening this weekend in Cleveland. North Coast Yard will host its soft opening this weekend, launching a summer full of programming and events, all free for Cleveland residents. “It’s a signal that we are moving forward and actually developing our downtown lakefront this time,” said Scott Skinner, executive director of North Coast Waterfront Development Corporation.

How is funding the recovery of the only arts-related part of the Tallahassee community even a question? We do not have any large or prestigious museums, no collections, no accessible local or state heritage, at least not facilities comparable to any other city with a similar populace. The small museums we do have are doing very good, very important work that serves our community on less than a shoestring of a budget. We should be funding them, too.

CLEVELAND — It’s one of Cleveland’s most iconic venues – Playhouse Square. Over the past 100 years, the theaters have grown into a downtown landmark and a top place to visit. But beyond the flashy shows and crowds of people, there are layers of history. “These theaters [were] showing vaudeville, silent movies, and theatrical productions through the 1920s,” said Kristen Jantonio, communications manager for Playhouse Square.

CLEVELAND — It started with a seizure. That’s when 34-year-old Peter Mang discovered he had cancer. “Whatever they told us, I didn’t comprehend it,” Mang said. “It took a while to actually realize what this was. Because I had never heard the word glioblastoma in my life.” Mang had a brain tumor. He says surgery helped remove 99% of it – and chemotherapy and radiation helped remove the rest. But he knew there was a chance it would return.

CLEVELAND — It’s back! The Cleveland Brewery Passport has launched for its fifth year. Once again, the passport will be a digital app that you can download on Destination Cleveland’s website. The passport this year has 43 breweries on it, all within 30 miles of downtown Cleveland. There are three new breweries on it this year, including one that will be opening later this spring.
