    Winona police are working to identify one of two attackers who allegedly bound a 19-year-old man with tape and assaulted him with a metal pipe Tuesday night at Lake Park in Winona. One of the two men allegedly involved in the incident, 19-year-old Elias Thane Workman of Winona, faces felony charges of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and threats of violence.

    A semi driver was critically injured Tuesday in northern Trempealeau County when a wayward hay bale crashed into the semi's windshield. According to the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office, deputies reported to the town of Chimney Rock south of Eleva at 12:04 p.m. for the accident located on Highway 93 north of Knudtson Valley Lane. The crash occurred after a hay bale was blown off a gooseneck trailer pulled by a truck headed northbound.

    An Oronco man involved in a fatal 2021 Winona County crash was charged Friday with vehicular homicide. Prosecutors say Eric Arthur Wittlief was using Snapchat moments before the crash that killed a Stockton man. The two-vehicle head-on collision took place at about 2:45 p.m. Aug. 5, 2021, on Stockton Hill at Highway 14 and Seminary Drive in Hillsdale Township.

    When Elena Miller was in sixth grade, she had troubles with school work and problems at home. “I was really struggling with home life, and I needed somebody to just kind of show up and really take an interest in me and what I was feeling, what I was going through, and really kind of help me focus all that anxiety somewhere positive,” Miller said. Miller found support in Winona Area Public Schools’ Miller Mentoring program. The program connects students facing challenges with community mentors.
