A familiar face will be taking over this upcoming school year as Winona Senior High School's new principal. The high school's assistant principal since 2022, Nathan Warneke will step into the role starting July 1. Warneke also previously taught in Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Lake City.

Even though cannabis has been legal in Minnesota since 2023, it will be a while longer before it's available at a Winona retailer. Cultivation shops may start to open in Winona by the end of this year, Winona deputy city clerk Amy VanGuilder reported during an informational session Monday. But people shouldn't expect to start buying cannabis products at that point, VanGuilder said. It is expected to take four months after the plants begin to grow for products to start hitting store shelves.

A new form of treatment for depression is now being offered closer to home in Winona. Associates in Mental Health & Addiction Services is now providing transcranial magnetic stimulation, a brain stimulation technique that has proven to help people who may not have experienced success with other depression treatment options. “I would say 85% of my patients have received some benefit from it,” said Dr. Anita Lauria, who owns the business with her husband Dr. Robert Lauria.
