NEW YORK (WABC) -- Restaurants across New York City can finally begin serving meals to patrons in their sidewalk and roadway eating spaces. They were once a staple of the pandemic, but those outdoor dining sheds disappeared in November as new rules went into effect in the city. Despite many restaurants receiving the green light to start building, hundreds face mounting pressure to offer a complete dining experience as they have not been approved to serve liquor.

CYPRESS HILLS, Brooklyn (WABC) -- One person is dead and two others were hurt in a shooting in Brooklyn. It happened inside a seventh-floor apartment in the Cypress Hills section Sunday night just before 11 p.m.At least one person suffered a gunshot to the back and was pronounced dead on the scene. Police say several shots were fired through a window. A 66-year-old man was shot in the leg and a 60-year-old man was shot in the arm and abdomen.

NYPD cracks down on illegally parked mopeds, bikes in New York City

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- To crack down on illegally parked mopeds in the city, the NYPD is starting to remove them. There were 210 seized over the weekend from March 6 through March 9. It was part of an operation to curb the amount of bikes parked illegally. Eyewitness News obtained video from part of the operation in Manhattan. Some of the bikes, which were registered with license plates, were pulled off the street due to being illegally parked. The four-day operation seized bikes in four boroughs.

EAST FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (WABC) -- The parents of a 4-year-old boy who died after possible exposure to fentanyl inside a family shelter in Brooklyn have been charged. The boy's parents, 26-year-old Miriam Elkayam and 32-year-old Witzchok Sklar, are both charged with abandonment of a child and criminal possession of a controlled substance. They are expected to be arraigned on Thursday. The child was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center around 8 a.m. Tuesday after suffering a medical episode.

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Some people across the Tri-State woke up to downed trees and debris all over their neighborhoods following a night of heavy rain. One area with noticeable damage was Forest Hills, Queens. Just before midnight, emergency removal teams were working to remove a tree that had fallen in the street at 110th Street and Jewel Avenue. Meantime, in Corona there were more trees down. On 37th Road, firefighters responded to a tree leaning on power lines.

FLATBUSH, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a child in Brooklyn. A four-year-old boy was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center around 8 a.m. Monday after suffering a medical episode. He was pronounced dead a short time later. The boy and his parents were living at the Women in Need shelter on Glenwood Road in the Flatbush section.
