The Missouri National Recreational River (MNRR) headquarters is staying in Yankton — at least for now. The federal government has rescinded its termination of the MNRR building’s lease, according to a South Dakota congressional source. The office of U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) confirmed Friday evening that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has reversed its cancellation of the lease, scheduled to run through October. The headquarters is located at 508 E. Second Street in Yankton.

Citing forensic test results, prosecutors have dismissed murder and manslaughter charges against a Yankton man for a 2024 stabbing death. Theodore Kranig Jr., 19, faced second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter charges for last December’s fatal stabbing of a Yankton man. The murder charge is classified as a Class B felony, while the manslaughter charge is classified as a Class C felony, both carrying a life sentence in a state correctional facility.

After months of discussing the Emergency Medical Service’s (EMS) future, the Yankton County Commissioners are considering an ambulance district as one option. During Tuesday’s regular meeting, Commissioner Dan Klimisch raised the issue of forming the taxing district rather than budgeting from the general fund. He broached the subject during commissioner updates, not as part of the formal agenda.
