Though a relic of the Jersey City industrial past, the Colgate Clock has remained a familiar face on the waterfront, even as high-rises have sprung up around it throughout the years. The City of Jersey City celebrated the Colgate Clock’s centennial on the Hudson River Walkway on Monday afternoon with an exhibit on the history of Colgate in Jersey City, as well as fun activities for kids provided by the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy.

Each March there are two things Abraham Martinez celebrates — his birthday and the start of the baseball season. Thursday he celebrated his 100th birthday at the Lutheran Senior Life in Jersey City and in two weeks he’ll be tuned to the television to root on his beloved New York Mets. His son, Lenny, credits hobbies like baseball and reading for his excellent health. “He still watches baseball,” Lenny Martinez said at the party for his dad.
