(WOLO)– South Carolina woman Susan Smith, who admitted to drowning her two children 30 years ago, appeared before a parole board for the first time to make a case for her freedom. During the hearing, Smith’s ex husband David Smith asked the parole board to not allow her to walk free today or ever, “15 years per child is not enough”.

    Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)–The woman convicted of killing her two children in union county in 1994 is up for parole. Officials with the Department of Probation, Pardon, and Parole services say Susan Smith’s parole hearing will take place in Columbia Wednesday. Smith began her 29-year sentence in 1994, after she was convicted on two counts of murder in the deaths of sons Michael and Alexander.

    COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster continues to update the state on recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene. The governor confirmed the death toll from the storm in the state stands at 48. Governor McMaster says 23 counties in South Carolina are eligible for personal and public FEMA aid. In the Midlands those counties include; Saluda, Newberry, Richland, and Lexington.

    Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– As South Carolinians wake up the morning after Hurricane Helene, most are still in the dark. According to poweroutage.us , 1,063,143 out of the more than 2 million in the state are still without power. One of the state’s largest energy providers, Dominion says as of 10am Saturday 190,974 customers are still without power. A statement on Dominion’s website says more than 2,500 employees have fanned out across the service area in an effort to restore power as soon as possible.

    Deputies investigating after body found in burned home Lexington Co., S.C. (WOLO)– Lexington Co. deputies say they are investigating after a body was found in a burned home Monday. Deputies say the home was located on Charles Town Rd.SLED and Lexington Co. Fire Services are assisting in the investigation. Authorities say at this time they are not searching for a suspect.
