A free men’s health screening event next Saturday will provide Madison-area men with vital health information—and a free lunch. The second annual Fighting Disparities Free Men’s Health Screening and Prostate Cancer Expo will take place Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Urban League of Greater Madison, 2222 S. Park Street. The event will feature a seven-point blood screening, educational sessions, music, and lunch catered by El Pastor.

Sudden termination of AmeriCorps funding in Wisconsin has left hundreds of young service workers jobless and disrupted vital services across schools, nonprofits, and community health programs. The cuts eliminated the jobs of 430 active AmeriCorps members in Wisconsin, including 69 in Dane County, and halted programming at more than 300 sites statewide. The AmeriCorps members worked in schools, clinics, homeless shelters and other direct service agencies.

In the wake of an uptick in efforts to deport both undocumented and legal immigrants, and the arrest of a Milwaukee judge who allegedly attempted to help an immigrant evade Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), immigrant rights rights organization Voces de la Frontera will hold protests and rallies today and tomorrow in Milwaukee and Madison. The events are part of a national day of protest that will see protests and rallies in at least 32 states in the coming days.
