EUGENE, Ore. – The woman accused of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Eugene Weekly, a local newspaper, is no longer in police custody after Oregon Governor Tina Kotek’s office declined to pay for her extradition from Ohio. The Eugene Weekly reported earlier in May that Elisha Young, 38, was arrested in Whitehall, Ohio after a traffic stop. She was wanted in Lane County on five felony charges, accused of embezzling money while working as the Eugene Weekly’s business manager.

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Benton County deputies said they have made an arrest related to a shooting on May 17 that injured one man, and they are looking for another suspect. According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, at about 5:30 a.m. on May 19, a 911 caller reported a man had been shot in a car. BCSO officials described the suspected shooter as a short Hispanic female with long hair who was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt.

LINN COUNTY, Ore. – A man is in jail on drug possession charges after a police dog helped find a large amount of powdered fentanyl in his trunk during a traffic stop, according to Oregon State Police. According to Oregon State Police, at about 2 p.m. on May 20, troopers stopped a white Chevrolet Impala on Interstate 5 in Linn County for an unlawful lane change. Troopers said that during the stop, they recognized signs of drug activity and got permission to search the car.

COQUILLE, Ore. – Teachers with the Coquille School District have issued a 10-day warning before initiating a strike after 89% of its members voted to authorize a strike on May 19. In the afternoon of May 19, the Coquille Education Association informed the Coquille School District that it had voted to go on strike, and it was issuing a 10-day notice before actually initiating a strike.
