    NEWPORT, Ore. – The Newport and Oregon fishing community is mourning after a beloved fishing vessel captain went missing when the boat went down in Washington waters. Captain Jon Stevenson of Newport, and the 68-foot “Captain Raleigh,” went down in 40 feet of water in Westport, Washington near the Grays Harbor Bar entrance in the morning of May 9. Reports said the vessel was taking on water at about 8:15 that morning.

    SUTHERLIN, Ore. – Numerous firefighters responded to a huge fire at a mobile home park in Sutherlin that injured one resident and killed several pets on Friday. According to the Sutherlin Fire Department, at about 4:29 p.m. on May 9, firefighters were dispatched to a report of a shed on fire in a mobile home park on north Comstock Road. SFD said that while crews were on the way, several callers reported multiple structures had caught fire.

    EUGENE, Ore. – After arresting a man on charges related to the alleged theft of a firearm, Lane County Sheriff’s detectives believe the man may have stolen several firearms over a lengthy period of time – and sold them to unsuspecting buyers who may now be in possession of stolen guns. According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, on March 26, 2025, a deputy began an investigation into a report of a stolen firearm.

    EUGENE, Ore. – A man who was allegedly caught on camera setting a fire in a dumpster on Sunday morning is now in jail on a charge of arson, Eugene police officers said. According to the Eugene Police Department, on May 11, officers responded to a dumpster fire at an auto shop on west Sixth Avenue. Firefighters with Eugene Springfield Fire had already arrived to put out the smoldering fire in a dumpster under the south overhang of the shop.

    EUGENE, Ore. – A man who allegedly traveled all the way from the Seattle area to meet a child under 16 years of age was arrested after falling into a Eugene Police Department sting operation, police said. According to the Eugene Police Department, at about 3:39 p.m. on May 9, Caleb Ogden, 27, arrived in Eugene from the Seattle area to meet up with a child under 16 that he allegedly met online.
