CANTON − A 41-year-old Massillon-area resident has died after being struck by a vehicle while walking across a city street Friday night. Calvin Scott died at a hospital Sunday due to his injuries, Canton police said in a statement released Monday afternoon. Scott had been trying to across Harmont Avenue NE and was struck by a motorist driving north in a 2022 Ford Escape, police said. The statement said police responded to the collision in the 3400 block of Harmont around 9:25 p.m. Friday.

PLAIN TWP. − Orion Street NW between Burkey Road NW and Pittsburg Avenue NW will close Monday for 120 days for a major reconstruction of the deteriorating street, a 0.6-mile stretch. The detour is north on Pittsburg Street NW, east on Mt. Pleasant Street NW and south on Burkey Road NW. Residents on Hearthstone Avenue NW will not be able to exit onto Orion during the closure. They can only exit on Daventry Street NW to Pittsburg.

The agency will be focusing on eight projects in Stark that will cost about $26.6 million. "It's a lot of maintenance," ODOT District 4 spokesman Justin Chesnic said at his office's recent construction kickoff event. Stark County won't see any new major road construction efforts in 2025 from the Ohio Department of Transportation.

PLAIN TWP. − Matalco, a Canadian aluminum slab producer, is closing its Stark County plant in June. The closure will result in the loss of 71 jobs. The company, based in Brampton, Ontario, filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) with the state of Ohio on Tuesday. Matalco said it has offered some of the employees jobs at its other five U.S. plants. The plants are in Lordstown; Bluffton, Indiana; Franklin, Kentucky; Shelbyville, Kentucky; and Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

Stark County Sheriff: Raychel Sheridan was murdered in her Plain Twp apt. Her body was found this morning by Canton sanitation workers in SW Canton. Sheridan's boyfriend Sean Goe who fled deputies Tuesday was found in a Canton homeless shelter by Canton PD, held on $500K bond.

Hartville income tax increase passes by 6 votes in Stark County Board of Elections official count. 681 for. 675 against. Law apparently requires recount.

Stark County Board of Elections certified Nov. 7 vote Tuesday. Pike Township road levy fails by 8 votes in final vote tally.
