Fermanagh health campaigners to host public meeting

SAVE Our Acute Services (SOAS) is organising a public meeting on the future of SWAH services and the removal of emergency general surgery at the hospital. SOAS has invited representatives from all five main political parties in the area, and the public will have the chance to ask questions on the night. The meeting takes place at Fermanagh House at 8pm on Thursday, May 1.

IT’S NOW exactly ten years since the creation of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council (FODC). In April 2015, as part of a major shake up of local government across the North, Fermanagh District Council merged with Omagh District Council to form the ‘super council’ we have today.
Fermanagh Lakeland Forum to cost around £70 million

THE cost of redeveloping the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum, which is expected to be given the green light at a Council meeting tonight (Tuesday), is reported to be in excess of £70 million. It was previously reported the cost of developing the Enniskillen establishment would be around £57.4 million, but it’s now expected that the overall price of the new build has jumped significantly. A reported £20 million will be put forward from the UK Government’s ‘Levelling Up Fund’.
Florencecourt man jailed for child sex abuse

A FERMANAGH has been jailed today for historic sex abuse of a child dating back to the 1980s. Gerard Augustine Quaile (60) from Creamery Close, Florencecourt faced seven counts of indecent assault, six of which related to one female child and the remainder to a second female child. Offending occurred between 1980 and 1985.

AN emotional inquest into the death of a woman at the South West Acute Hospital (SWAH) has heard powerful testimony from her mother, who has stated the true cause of her daughter’s death has never been determined. Tracy Antoinette Butler, 35, who was born with cerebral palsy, was non-verbal and had suffered a brain haemorrhage at birth, passed away on July 18, 2016, at South West Acute Hospital. “No post-mortem was ever carried out,” Marian Butler stated.
Ambulance service apologises for Fermanagh delays

THE NI Ambulance Service (NIAS) has apologised to anyone in Fermanagh who may have waited longer for an ambulance than expected. Responding to an recent incident in the county where a young injured GAA player faced a two hour wait for an ambulance, NIAS outlined the extreme pressures it is currently experiencing across the North. “We are sorry for the delay in providing such a response. It is not the service that we want to provide,” said an NIAS spokesman.

A large crowd turned out to the Hillgrove Hotel in Monaghan recently for the popular awards night, with 18 Fermanagh winners confirmed for accolades in some hugely competitive categories.
Enniskillen bypass could begin within months

CONSTRUCTION work on the Enniskillen Bypass is finally expected to begin at the start of this summer, the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has confirmed. The Department has also refuted local rumours that funding for the bridge element of the major construction project had been diverted elsewhere.
Enniskillen abduction accused bailed to Clinton Centre

A MAN accused of abducting a child from a local care home has been re-released on bail. Alioune Sow (19), whose address is given as the Clinton Centre, Enniskillen, is charged with child abduction. He is due to contest the charge. The charge relates to September 2024 when a children’s home raised concerns about the defendant who was in a relationship with a 15-year-old girl in their care.

A PUBLIC meeting on the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum will take place at the Enniskillen Hotel this Monday, April 14, night at 8pm.
