The incident occurred when a timber train collided with an empty Intercity Railcar (ICR) passenger train shortly before midnight on February 10, 2025 in a siding at Westport railway station. The ICR was moved onto the shed road in Westport Yard in expectation of the arrival of the timber train into the cabin siding. The Railway Accident Investigation Unit (RAIU) and Iarnród Éireann’s own investigation of this incident remains ongoing.

A lorry driver has been hospitalised following an early morning crash in Co Roscommon. Gardaí and emergency services attended a single-vehicle traffic collision involving a lorry that occurred at approximately 5.30am today, Monday, March 31, 2025 in the Cornabanny area of Cloonfad, Co Roscommon. The driver of the lorry, a man aged in his 40s, was conveyed to Mayo University Hospital as a precaution following this collision. The road involved remains closed at this time. Diversions are in place.

The cyclist, who was aged in his 60s, was found with life-threatening injuries on the N17 in Co Mayo on Friday, February 28, 2025 at around 12.20pm. The man was brought by ambulance to hospital. Gardaí confirmed he has since passed away. The incident happened on the road between the airport and Charlestown. Gardaí have renewed their appeal for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Representatives of Roscommon County Council have undertaken a busy schedule of meetings in New York over St Patrick’s Day weekend. The delegation comprising of Cathaoirleach Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice, Chief Executive Shane Tiernan and Director of Finance Sean Mullarkey, engaged in a number of meetings and events while in New York. They visited the offices of Enterprise Ireland, Tourism Ireland and IDA Ireland, based in Park Avenue, and they also took part in the St Patrick’s Day parade in New York.
