TYLER, Texas — As Kenneth Steel recovers in the hospital from a heart attack, he knows that he wouldn't be alive without the help of a good Samaritan. Earlier this week, Steel made a late-night trip to a gas station at the intersection of Rice Road and Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler when he collapsed. That's when a kind woman came to his aid. Now, Steel and his family are asking East Texas residents for assistance in finding that life-saving heroine. Read more from our news partners at CBS19.

TYLER, Texas — Texas has decided not to participate in a federal program aimed at helping low-income families provide meals for their children during the summer break. This means the state is missing out on $450 million in federal tax dollars that could have supported eligible families. The federal nutrition program would have provided meals for 3.8 million children, but Texas is one of only 15 states opting out.
