SALT LAKE CITY — Police lifted evacuation orders in the neighborhoods previously threatened by the Sandhurst Fire above Ensign Peak on Sunday night. "After strong efforts by firefighting resources on the Sandhurst Fire, containment has been reached on the southern perimeter," Salt Lake police said in a statement. "Fire managers feel confident the fire will not progress further towards the community.

A pickup traveling west left its lane and struck an eastbound Mazda head-on at about 5:40 p.m., Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Chris Bishop said. The driver of the Mazda was flown to a hospital in critical condition.

ELWOOD, Box Elder County — A 21-year-old man was flown from Box Elder County to a Salt Lake burn center Monday with “serious burns” after being shocked while working on fiber optic cables on telephone poles. At 1:12 p.m., emergency medical personnel responded to a call about a man who had received an electric shock while working at 8515 N. 4600 West in Elwood, Box Elder County Chief Deputy Sheriff Cade Palmer said.
