TOWN OF DICKINSON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – Hundreds of robots faced off at SUNY Broome today, in a competition to find the best engineers and computer coders. Students from 14 different school districts were at SUNY Broome’s Ice Center for the 14th annual Robotics Competitions. The students spend 3 to 4 weeks designing and building their robots to specialize in one competition. Such as king of the ring, the forklift challenge, a maze, swept away, and more.

MILFORD, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – For his eagle scout project, a local boy is transforming an entire train station and offering a special train ride next weekend. Nathan Strauss is a boy scout, with the goal of building an updated train station and picnic area for the Milford Park Railroad in Milford. He plans to build a pavilion with benches, update the waiting area, install handicap accessible picnic tables, gardens, and a pedestrian crossing.

VESTAL, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – A caravan of protestors made multiple stops today, calling on the government to stop funding weapons manufacturers with tax dollars. Today is Tax Day, and local peace activists teamed up with students from Binghamton University to protest the college’s partnership with local defense contractors. Protestors started this morning outside of Lockheed Martin in Owego, before protesting outside of BAE Systems, and ending in front of the administrative building at BU.

The organization manages its over $47-million endowment, and awards grants and funding to local projects that better the community’s quality of life. Development Officer Shawn Graham says just last year, the foundation awarded over 500 different grants, totaling over $3.4 million.
