SOMERSET, Pa. – Children of local scouting organizations ceremonially folded an American flag Monday at the Somerset County Courthouse that was then presented to Frances Thompson, of Confluence, mother of U.S. Army Pfc. Nils Thompson, who was killed by a sniper in Mosul, Iraq, in 2005. Thompson was 19 years old and deeply religious, Somerset County Commissioner and Memorial Day mistress of ceremonies Sandra Tokar-Ickes said.

May 18—JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Westmont Borough Council is moving forward with following the process for a comprehensive plan to share services with neighboring municipalities. "This is where we have another opportunity to come together on shared services by putting together a comprehensive plan," Council President Marc McCall said during the council's meeting Tuesday.

May 15—JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — Edgehill Drive in Westmont Borough has been closed for nearly four years, overtaken by machinery used in the now-stalled rehabilitation of the Cambria County Transit Authority's Johnstown Inclined Plane. Westmont Borough Council has decided that people who live around Edgehill Drive and visitors struggling to access Asiago's Tuscan Italian restaurant and the Westmont Grove recreation center have put up with the closure for long enough.
