CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service in Cleveland has activated a “Special Weather Statement” due to “an elevated risk of wildfire spread” -- which is in effect for all of Northeast Ohio until 8 p.m. Friday. Weather officials say it’s due to a combination of warm temperatures and gusty, southerly winds. “Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential sources of ignition, such as machinery, cigarettes or matches,” according to the National Weather Service.

AKRON, Ohio — A 16-year-old girl was arrested Thursday morning at Buchtel CLC in Akron amid allegations that she struck a 55-year-old teacher and a 15-year-old girl in the head with a Stanley cup. Akron police say it was around 8 a.m. when a school resource officer responded to a fight involving two students in the girls’ restroom. “As the altercation escalated, a teacher entered to intervene,” according to a press release issued by the Akron Police Department on Friday morning.

SANDUSKY, Ohio — With Cedar Point’s opening day right around the corner on Saturday, May 3, park officials are sharing some new details regarding restaurants associated with the park. First, Chickie’s & Pete’s will not be returning for the 2025 season. Cedar Point spokesperson Tony Clark tells 3News this is due to a contract expiration. “There are no current plans for that location,” Clark said in an email.

MASON, Ohio — When Kings Island opens for the 2025 season in Mason on Saturday, it comes with a name change and updated story for one of the park’s roller coasters as officials announced Friday morning that the Backlot Stunt Coaster is now known as the Queen City Stunt Coaster. “The ride, celebrating its 20 year anniversary, has been re-named to honor Cincinnati and its iconic landmarks,” according to a press release from Kings Island.

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the skeletal remains that were found in the Cleveland Metroparks earlier this week near Beyer’s Pond in Middleburg Heights as 66-year-old Steve Benkovits. According to the Ohio Attorney General’s site, Benkovits had been reported missing from Berea since April 7, 2023. A spokesperson for the Cleveland Metroparks had previously told 3News the remains were found in the woods on Monday.
