TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Tallahassee Police Department is searching for a suspect after reports of gunfire on the south side of the capital city. TPD spokesperson Damon Miller said that officers found shell casings in the area of South Gadsden Street and Magnolia Drive after receiving reports of gunfire at about noon Monday. As of 1:30 p.m., no one has been found shot or injured. Miller said the department believes there is no threat to the public.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Florida Highway Patrol has completely reopened Interstate 10 in Tallahassee after two crashes partially blocked the road during heavy rain in the area Monday. Two separate crashes caused FHP to shut down the outside and middle lanes on the westbound side of the roadway at about 3:30 p.m. The roadways reopened at about 5:30 p.m., after previously being backed up from near mile marker 197 to near exit 202.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins Saturday, and experts predict an above-average season. And with this prediction comes an all too important question. Are you prepared? NOAA and the National Weather Service are predicting the 2024 season to have an 85% chance of being “above normal” with anywhere between 17 and 25 named storms. NOAA is also predicting a total of 8-13 hurricanes, with 4-7 of those being “major” (category three or higher).

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season begins June 1st and runs for 182 days. The new season comes as those in the eastern part of the Big Bend and South Georgia continue to clean up and rebuild from Hurricane Idalia, which made landfall near Keaton Beach on August 31, 2023. To help prepare you for the season and show the progress being made in the wake of Idalia, WCTV put together this year’s annual Hurricane Special around Idalia recovery.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Three small structures in southwest Tallahassee were damaged after a brush fire spread to them Friday, according to the Tallahassee Fire Department. The burn took place just after 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Iamonia Street and McCaskill Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol online map. Firefighters were able to extinguish in under an hour, TFD public information officer Todd Inserra said. No one was injured in the blaze, according to the TFD official.
